We want to draw your attention to significant issue manufacturers face today: the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) compliance. With the increase in regulations and sustainability requirements proposed by the EU Commission, it is crucial for manufacturers to comply with environmental regulations to avoid hefty fines and reputational damage.

IED aims to achieve the protection of human health and the environment taken as a whole by reducing harmful discharges of wastewater, the generation of waste, and industrial emissions, across Europe, in particular through better application of the Best Available Techniques.

Many manufacturers are struggling to comply with the IED requirements, which mandate the monitoring and reporting of emissions and waste to reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities. One of the primary pain points of manufacturers is the lack of an efficient and interoperable traceability system that can capture, store and manage emissions data across their supply chains. Besides that a lot of these platforms are too expensive for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to implement, making compliance with regulations an insurmountable burden for these businesses.

A well-known manufacturer Tata Steel Ijmuiden B.V. based in the Netherlands recently faced a major setback when it failed to comply with the requirements. The company incurred hefty fines and faced negative publicity, which affected its reputation in the market.

The Tata steelworks is the main source of metal and polycarbon-based pollutants in the IJmond region, and figures collected by the regional health board show the pollution is more serious than the company’s own records would indicate. — public health institute RIVM.

COTIT 360° solution is designed with the goal of meeting the needs of all stakeholders while prioritizing sustainability, accuracy, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and privacy. One of the key benefits of our API-based traceability system is its modularity, new functionality can be added or removed as needed, without affecting the overall operating system. This allows businesses to easily adapt to changing market conditions and customer needs. By doing so, our traceability platform can help companies achieve their green purposes while improving operations and avoiding regulatory fines.
